It was never going to be easy. Coffin Bay was the highlight of our entire trip so far; every other place would now be measured against it.
When we arrived at Streaky Bay, I didn’t really give it much thought. It had been a long day and we still had to set up. There was laundry to do. Showers to be had. We had planned on staying 3 nights, but I wasn’t so sure about it.
I should have known better. The next day, the sun came out, Streaky Bay glowed brightly with its greens and blues. We took a short drive to The Granites, where red rocks sat beneath rugged high cliffs on crystal water. Then onto Smooth Pool, where as you may have guessed, there were a lot of rock pools.
We were satisfied and full of praise for South Australia’s beauty. She’s a real wild one!
Our final day in Streaky had Felix fulfilling his fishing dream. We had a quiet day, so he fished for three hours straight. He caught his own dinner and made friends with every passerby whom admired his catches and patience.
On our last evening, another camper had told us the swell was huge and that the nearby blow hole was spectacular.
The sun was about to set, and we were about to make dinner…but it was now or never, so we threw the kids in the car and hoped for the best.
We made it just as the sun set, with enough light to see the incredible power of the waves as they thrashed against the cliff and projected into the sky. The mood was amplified by the howling of the wind as it was caught in the rock beneath.
