We followed a path lined with towering palm trees.
It led us to the entrance of the hot springs where the white pebbles beneath, reflected the blue sky through the ever clear waters. The water was a perfect 30 degrees and as we settled in, a gentle current picked us up and carried us through a winding waterbed of greenery.
We drifted along passing luscious green palms and paperbark trees. Beneath us, long vibrant grasses were waving in the direction of the current with the occasional fish darting for cover. The spring was surprisingly deep and so when we came by a fallen branch, covered in slimy moss, we rested on it for awhile and watched water mosaics on the surface play with reflections of the sky and palm leaves.
At the end of the designated route, there was a path through the bush, which led back to the first pool. The wind always seemed to whip through when we were done and had us racing back to the start, to do it all over again.
Bitter Springs was something from a dream. It was relaxing, breathtaking, exciting and soothing all in one!
To experience the hot springs, we stayed on the Roper River at Bitter Springs. It was a lovely campsite, with great facilities and some friendly farm animals, which the kids made a point of visiting daily!
