To reach the entrance of Lake Cave, we had to descend into a sink hole, thick with greenery.
We then made our way down a dark tunnel between two thick rocks.
Deep inside, was a white wonderland of stalagmites and stalactities. They were illuminated by lights which led us down deeper along a pathway, over a lake, which boasted a floating table.
We learnt that it took 10months for a drop of rain to make its way down a straw of a stalactite, where it would deposit a little bit of salt to grow the stalactite and then drop down below to form a stalagmite. It was natures work of art, with intricate details and dramatic effects.
Seeing this 1 million year old limestone cave was both beautiful and eerie. Apparently most of the Margaret River region has caves below the ground. It makes one wonder what other magical spots lay beneath.
